Hello! This week I have made some progress in designing a webpage for The Art of Bloom, a small florist business.
My initial idea was to go for something a little different from usual florist websites. My research from last week suggests florist sites often focus on colourful images with a simple colour scheme. Greys, pastel colours and greens are often used.
My inspiration comes from the “art” part of The Art of Bloom. I really like the look of bright watercolour on a white background. It gives a clean yet playful look and is colourful enough to convey the message that the website is a florist site.
With this inspiration in mind, I started jotting down content for the page. After I had a good idea of what content I had, I created a wire frame. I will be creating my own icons and images for this site.
I also created a Pinterest board with watercolour inspiration for The Art of Bloom. From there, I made swatches of colour from one of my favourite images on the board.
Finally, I started playing around with the logo. I chose Scriptorama Tradeshow JF as my script typeface, from TypeKit. I watched a tutorial from Every Tuesday on how to create watercolour typography on Photoshop, a very comprehensive tutorial, I definitely recommend it. I used her bonus watercolour textures for the effect.
I liked the initial feel of the watercolour typography, however I was not happy with the serif font I chose. Instead, I tried to swap the colours around and use a sans-serif font.
This logo I’m happier with. It has a lighter, more cheerful feel to it because of the bright pink.
Thanks for reading, I will be posting more updates on the small business project in the next few weeks!
